The City of Sanibel will host a public workshop on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at MacKenzie Hall, Sanibel City Hall, 800 Dunlop Rd, to provide an update on plans for the permanent replacement of the Sanibel Fishing Pier at Lighthouse Beach Park.
During the workshop, City staff and the project consultant will present three potential locations currently under evaluation for the construction of the new pier. The alternatives are being considered based on factors including public access, environmental considerations, permitting, constructability, long-term resiliency, and park operations.
Separately, the existing fishing pier is undergoing permitting for temporary repairs that would allow it to reopen for public use while the permanent replacement pier is planned and constructed. The City’s goal is to minimize the time the community is without access to a fishing pier by reopening the existing pier once temporary repairs are completed and approved, and by maintaining access to it for as long as reasonably possible during the replacement process.
Members of the public will have an opportunity to review the three potential locations for the new pier, ask questions, and provide feedback as the City continues the planning and design process.
