City Studying Improvements to Police Department

by SC Associate Publisher Chuck Larsen

The City of Sanibel has been studying improvements to the Sanibel Police Department facilities. That has included new space for a permanent ladies locker room to replace the current trailer, as well as moving the 911 operator to better serve the community.

The 911 operator, who doubles as a receptionist, is located at the department’s entrance. However, the operator is required to remain on the line until the emergency call is resolved which means they are not available to immediately serve those who come to the reception window.

Police Chief William Dalton said they are attempting to relocate the 911 operator in the redesigned space and have a separate receptionist who can assist those needing help at the window without delay.
