Sanibel City Council is currently accepting applications for several open positions on two important committees: the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and the Municipal Police Officers’ Pension Board of Trustees.
Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee
Sanibel City Council is seeking applicants to fill four (4) seats on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee:
• One (1) seat is currently vacant for a partial term ending on September 10, 2027
• One (1) seat is currently vacant for a partial term ending on September 8, 2028
• Two (2) seats are available due to expiring terms. The term for these seats will begin on September 12, 2026 and expire on September 14, 2029
To review the authority and responsibilities of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, refer to the City of Sanibel Code, Chapter 2, Administration, Article III, Boards, Committees, Commissions; Division 4-Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. (Click Here)
Responsibilities:
• Attend monthly meetings at 9 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month
• Make recommendations to the City Council and City Manager regarding the items listed in the Sanibel City Charter – Section 2-168. Functions and Duties
Qualifications:
• City Council appoints members
• Appointees must be FULL-TIME residents of Sanibel

Municipal Police Officers’ Pension Board of Trustees
Sanibel City Council is also accepting applications for three (3) seats on the Municipal Police Officers’ Pension Board of Trustees. The terms of appointment commence on October 1, 2026, and expire on September 30, 2030.

Responsibilities:
• Attend quarterly Board meetings on the second Wednesday of February, May, August, and November at 1 p.m. in MacKenzie Hall at City Hall, 800 Dunlop Road
• General time commitment is 15-20 hours per year to review materials and attend quarterly meetings
