The Roots in Resilience partnership is a citizen-driven initiative established to restore native, storm-resilient vegetation in public spaces impacted by recent storm events. The Causeway Boulevard corridor was selected by the Roots in Resilience partnership as the first area to target landscape restoration efforts.

For this project, the City’s role includes reviewing and approving landscape designs, managing procurement, overseeing projects, and providing long-term maintenance.
In fulfillment of procurement responsibilities, an advertisement for bids was placed in the April 6, 2026, edition of the Fort Myers News-Press and posted on the City’s online bid solicitation service, DemandStar. Bid opening was conducted by City Staff on May 7, 2026, in the presence of Procurement Manager Brett Schira, Environmental Biologist Joel Coauette, and Environmental Biologist Dana Dettmar.
The City received six bids. All six bidding firms were deemed responsive based on the completeness of their proposals, clarity of submission, relevant project experience, and alignment with the project scope. Juniper Landscaping of Florida was the lowest responsive bidder ($324,112.10).
City staff have recently worked with Juniper on a native canopy restoration project at Community Park and were satisfied with the relationship and their work. Their referenced projects include experience with other roadway corridor landscaping restoration in Venice and Englewood. Based on these factors, staff recommends awarding the contract to Juniper Landscaping of Florida for the Causeway Boulevard Planting Project.
Council voted to approve.
