Police responded to an erratic driver at 5:18 p.m. Sunday, July 31 on West Gulf Drive. Logan Lee of Sanibel crashed his vehicle and left the scene. He was located a short distance from the crash and arrested. Lee was charged with hit and run and driving under the influence. He was booked into the Lee County Jail and released Aug. 1 on a $3,500 bond.
Gregory Bright was charged with reckless driving Monday, Aug. 1, after an officer clocked his vehicle’s speed at 65 mph in a 35-mph zone on Sanibel Captiva Road. Bright’s vehicle was also observed passing several eastbound vehicles. He was also issued a speeding citation.
Two minor vehicle crashes occurred Aug. 1 and Aug. 2 on Periwinkle Way. No injuries were reported.
Animal Reports
A 10-to-12-feet alligator was reported Friday, July 29 at a property on Causey Court. The alligator did not retreat when officers approached it. The state trapper was contacted to have it relocated.
An injured pelican was reported Sunday, July 31 in the roadway on Periwinkle Way. The bird could not be located by officers.
At least 10 iguanas of varying sizes were reported Monday, Aug. 1 at a property on Victoria Way.
A group of manatees was reported Tuesday, Aug. 2 near the shoreline of Bowman’s Beach. Officers provided crowd and vessel control.
Up to five iguanas of varying sizes were reported Wednesday, Aug. 3 in the backyard of a home on Dimmick Drive.
A coyote was sighted Thursday, Aug. 4 in the area of Joewood Drive.
