Driver, Passenger Cited Following Crash; Vehicle Strikes Bicyclist

A driver and passenger received citations following a collision Thursday, Feb. 20, on Tarpon Bay Road. Pamela Rokoskie, 60, North Fort Myers, was traveling south on Tarpon Bay Road at 5:25 p.m., when she slowed to make a left turn onto Wax Myrtle Way and the back of her vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Joseph Stefanick, 28, Fort Myers.

Rokoskie told the responding officer that Stefanick’s passenger, 32-year-old Marco Hernandez of Fort Myers, had exited the vehicle and discarded a white box into a nearby wooded area prior to the officer’s arrival. Police discovered a box of Corona beer with six full bottles, which were still cold, and two nearly empty bottles.

Police determined Stefanick was not under the influence and cited him for following too closely. Hernandez was cited for not wearing his seatbelt and littering. Rokoskie suffered minor injuries to her nose and Hernandez sustained a head injury from striking the windshield. Neither were transported to the hospital.

Earlier that same day police responded to a minor vehicle crash on Periwinkle Way. Tamara Christenson, 64, Sanibel, was traveling east on Periwinkle at 4:19 p.m., when the back of her vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Tania Altamirano Santana, 25, Fort Myers. No injuries were reported.

Bicyclist Struck by Vehicle

Maurice Tenney, 56, Warrington, Penn., was traveling east on the Shared Use Path along Middle Gulf Drive at 4:59 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, when a westbound vehicle operated by 89-year-old Norman Minsky of Bangor, Maine struck his bicycle as it turned into 1440 Middle Gulf Dr. Bicyclist Christopher Tenney, 25, Manchester, Penn., then struck the back of Maurice’s bicycle and Maurice rolled onto the windshield of Minsky’s vehicle before falling to the ground.

The Tenneys were treated by Lee County EMS at the scene, but refused transport to the hospital. Minsky was cited for failing to yield the right of way to the pair of bicyclists.

Minor Parking Lot Crash

Marlys Anderson, 77, Mendota Heights, Minn., was traveling west in the Bailey’s Hardware parking lot, 2499 Periwinkle Way, at 5:16 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, when a vehicle operated by Akberali Khakee, 83, Sanibel, was backing out of a parking space and struck the driver’s door of his vehicle. No injuries were reported.
