FISH Food Pantry Fills Gap As Grocery Prices Rise

FISH of SANCAP is seeing the effect of rising grocery prices on local families, seniors, and the workforce as the need increases for its Food Pantry. A mother of three who visits the pantry said cutting back on something as simple as eggs is frustrating and heartbreaking.

“My kids eat eggs for breakfast almost daily, and we love to bake together. Now, I have to rethink how I make their favorite meals,” the mother said.

The FISH Food Pantry helps offset the increasing price of groceries by providing nutritious food at no cost to those in need. The pantry carries eggs, fresh produce, other perishables, and pantry staples.

“Food insecurity is growing, and the rising cost of groceries is putting added pressure on families already stretched thin,” said FISH Executive Director Maria Espinoza.

“We see the direct impact every day – parents trying to make healthy meals for their kids, workers juggling expenses, and seniors on a fixed income struggling to buy essentials,” said Espinoza. “Our goal is to provide relief and ensure everyone in our community has access to the nutritious food they need.”

FISH can stock its Food Pantry thanks to generous community donations and partnerships with Harry Chapin Food Bank, Midwest Food Bank, and local stores. To make a financial contribution, visit the FISH website. For more information, call 239-472-4775.

The pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
