Islanders, friends and family are invited to the community-wide FISH OF SANCAP Friendly Faces Luncheon at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 at the Sanibel Recreation Center, 3880 Sanibel Captiva Rd. Local resident Frances Tutt will share her experience and tips on how to create a thriving vegetable garden on the islands.
Tutt has learned Southwest Florida is a unique and challenging ecosystem, and will provide resources to help gardeners of all levels. She will discuss her unique experiences while working as a food scientist for McCormick, where she was employed for 30 years in the industrial flavor division. Before retiring as a principal scientist in 2018, she worked with flavor chemists to develop beverages for huge manufacturing companies such as Anheuser-Busch.
In this presentation Tutt will discuss how she is growing healthy and organic food on Sanibel and will share information from books, YouTube channels and other resources she uses. “I admit that I’m on a never-ending learning journey and hope you will find some benefit from hearing what has and has not worked for me over the years. I look forward to seeing you in January,” said Tutt.
“With so many returning to the islands for ‘season’, we hope you will join us at our 2024 Friendly Faces kick-off,” says Erika Broyles, Senior Services Director, FISH. “We’ve scheduled a great line up of speakers for the New Year, and we will continue with our interactive games and giveaways. Sanibel Deli will provide the delicious lunches, complimentary to all guests.”
The 2024 monthly luncheons are held at the Sanibel Recreation Center the second Tuesday of the month. A virtual option is also provided. Reservations and meal choices are required by Friday, Jan. 5 to Erika Broyles at FISH at 239-472-4775. Zoom instructions for those joining virtually will be provided with RSVP. There is no meal delivery available for virtual participants.
