FISH of SanCap continues to grow its Neighbor Network, a business partnership program that supports local employees while strengthening connections between businesses and essential community resources.
Rooted in a community-based approach, the Neighbor Network gives businesses an easy way to help their teams and show support for the island workforce. The program ensures employees know about available resources—quietly and respectfully. It helps normalize support and reduces barriers before challenges grow.
FISH created the Network as a direct way for employers to connect teams with support. One access point links employees to food help, financial aid, referrals, and workshops, helping address challenges early and maintain stability.
For many businesses, Neighbor Network adds to employee support simply and at no cost. Rising grocery, housing, and transportation costs affect workers. FISH connects employees with resources to help them stay focused and stable at home.
Participation shows commitment to the community, not that employees rely on services. By sharing resources widely, businesses help create a culture where seeking support feels normal and accepted.
“The Neighbor Network builds a stronger bridge between businesses and the people they rely on every day,” said Simon Robson, Community Outreach and Resiliency Director at FISH. “It’s about making sure people know where to turn and reinforcing the idea that support is part of a strong, connected community.”
The program helps raise awareness of community challenges and shares needs with partners and leaders. All information stays confidential, and no names are shared. Working with businesses, FISH learns what employees face and responds to real needs.
“We have a hardworking team, but the current economy is making it harder for many to keep up with basic expenses,” said a participating Neighbor Network business. “We are grateful to have FISH as a resource, knowing our employees can access support if they meet the program requirements. It gives us peace of mind that help is there when it’s needed.”
FISH proudly recognizes the businesses already participating in the Neighbor Network, including The Magic Bus, Wickie’s Lighthouse Restaurant, A Little Adventure, AIP Outfitters, Rachel Pierce Art Gallery, Wilford and Lee, The Sanibel Café, Shiny Objects, Home by Rachel Pierce, On Island, Sanibel Sole, Synergy, Sanibel Pilates & Spa, Pierce’s Paw Paradise, and Sanibel Carts. Their involvement reflects a shared commitment to supporting the local workforce and strengthening the community.
Participating businesses receive recognition for their involvement, including a storefront sticker reading “Proudly Helping Our Neighbors”. Businesses are also featured on the FISH website, increasing visibility and reinforcing their role as trusted partners.
FISH is adding volunteer opportunities tied to the Neighbor Network. This boosts awareness and invites more businesses to join. Teams can get involved and support the community directly.
FISH works to build partnerships that support both employees and employers, ensuring people on Sanibel and Captiva have the resources they need to move forward.
