FISH of SanCap is now a registered site for the ReUnite Program, offering free scent kits to help law enforcement quickly locate missing children or vulnerable adults. ReUnite, a partnership between United Way and local law enforcement, provides scent kits to families and caregivers to help reduce search time if a loved one goes missing.
The program is especially helpful for families caring for someone with dementia or other risks of wandering. FISH Senior Services Director Erika Arnowitz is now trained to register participants, process applications, and provide scent kits directly through FISH.
“Having a plan in place makes a real difference,” said Arnowitz. “ReUnite gives families a resource they can prepare ahead of time, now available locally through FISH.”
Scent kits are available by appointment at FISH. Contact Arnowitz to schedule and bring a current color photo of the person being registered. On August 21, FISH of Sanibel-Captiva celebrates National Senior Citizens Day, honoring the contributions and resilience of older adults. Established in 1988, the special day encourages support for older adults to live healthy, independent lives.
FISH will share a sweet treat with seniors at the Food Pantry and through Meals by FISH deliveries on August 21, as a small way to show appreciation.
“Our seniors shape our community,” said Arnowitz. “National Senior Citizens Day lets us celebrate them, but our support continues year-round.”
FISH programs help local seniors stay connected and independent, offering meals, calls, luncheons, transportation, equipment loans, and other services to support aging in place. With one in six Americans now 65 or older, social connection and support for seniors are more important than ever.
FISH encourages recognizing National Senior Citizens Day by reaching out to an older neighbor, volunteering, or simply spending time with someone who may appreciate the company. “A visit or call can make a real difference,” Arnowitz added.
