FISH of SanCap appeared before the Sanibel Planning Commission on May 12, 2026, seeking a conditional use permit to operate in two units at Palm Ridge Plaza, 2330 Palm Ridge Road (where the Sanibel Deli is located).

Occupation of this space will be temporary – perhaps around two years – as FISH’s previous building is being demolished. Unit 1 will serve as the food pantry. It was previously a restaurant, and FISH’s use is actually lower density than a restaurant. Unit 2 will serve as the FISH offices.

FISH serves 43 to 45 people a day, according to Rachel L. Bielert, the applicant for FISH’s request. This will require far fewer parking spaces than the restaurant, she said. Also, many of FISH’s employees and clients ride their bicycles.

The Planning Commission set these conditions for approval of the application:
• Bicycle rack for a minimum of 10 bikes
• Loading area in the rear of the building
• No onsite food preparation
• Landscape buffer waiver implemented within 12 months

An added condition after discussion:
• Within 120 days, complete installation of parking pavers or transitions complete between pavers and gravel areas.

The applicant agreed to all of the conditions, and the Commission unanimously approved the conditional use permit application.
