Joseph Michael DeGeorge, 76, passed away at Gulf Coast Medical Center on Jan. 30, 2020. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 5, 1943, he moved to Sanibel in the 1980s, where he made his home until his death. Family and fellow islanders knew him as a true island character who did odd jobs around the community and always had a friendly wave and conversation to share. He will be remembered for his openness and genuine friendliness to all he met. He enjoyed spending time with friends and families and working around in his yard. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Pauline and Joseph DeGeorge and brother Michael DeGeorge. He is survived by his daughter Sarah DeGeorge of Fort Myers and Lisa DeGeorge of Georgia, his stepdaughter Savannah Jones and wife Patti Jones. Details of a memorial service for Joe are still being decided. In the meantime, send condolences to Sarah DeGeorge, 4861 E. Riverside Drive, Tice, Fla., 33905.
