Kiwanis Annual Spaghetti Dinner Coming Feb. 29

One of Sanibel’s most anticipated events is coming soon, so mark your calendars. Each year on the last Saturday in February the Kiwanis Club throws a party for the whole community—the annual Spaghetti Dinner! You are bound to see some old friends there, and probably meet some new ones.

Now in its third decade, the Spaghetti Dinner has become an island institution. This year’s event will be held Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Sanibel Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way. Dinner will be served from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm, followed by dessert, music, and the fun of competing for raffle and auction prizes.

Diners get a complete Italian feast, with spaghetti, sauce, meatballs, salad, garlic bread and beverages (wine and soda), and it’s all-you-can-eat. Admission is $10 in advance or $11 at the door, and children under 10 eat free! (Dessert and coffee are extra, and will again feature the popular cakes from the Bubble Room on Captiva.) Advance tickets can be purchased from any Kiwanis member and also at Bailey’s General Store, Bank of the Islands, Sanibel-Captiva Community Bank, Big Red Q Printing, Island Pharmacy and Periwinkle Park.

All proceeds from the Spaghetti Dinner are used by the Kiwanis Foundation to support education and recreation programs for island youth, including the Kiwanis Scholarship Program for deserving students. Said Kiwanis President Aaron Pruss, “Our Club is proud to host the Spaghetti Dinner each year, even though it’s a lot of work for our members and a big commitment from our sponsors. The public really enjoys the event, and it’s a great way for the community to help us support the youth programs that benefit our local island kids.”

Many Island businesses and organizations contribute to putting on the event. Major sponsors include: Cielo, Bank of the Islands, The Bubble Room, San Cap Community Bank, Billy’s Rentals, Bailey’s General Store, Sanibel Captiva Trust Company, Sanibel Captiva Beach Resorts, Sanibel Golf Club, Barefoot Charlie’s Painting Co., Sanctuary Golf Club , The Dunes Golf & Tennis Club, Sundial and Island Inn. In addition, many others show their support by contributing food items and prizes that are placed in the raffle and auction.
