LCEC Energy Tips – How High Heat Impacts Energy Usage

With summer heat on the rise in Southwest Florida, LCEC, your local electric co-op, wants to remind you how weather impacts your energy bill. As temperatures climb, air conditioners work harder, leading to higher electricity use and costs. The weather cannot be controlled, but how you use your energy can. Here are some helpful tips from LCEC to help you manage your energy usage and keep costs in check this summer:

• Try setting the thermostat to 78 degrees; each degree below adds 8 to 12 percent to the cooling costs.
• Keep blinds and curtains closed during the day to prevent extra heat from entering the home.
• Check AC filters monthly and change as needed.
