To the Editor:
On March 2nd 2021 the citizens of Sanibel will be asked to vote in a permanent City Council. In my opinion, Jason Maughan is a proven resource for our island that we cannot afford to do without.
Make no mistake about it, accepting the responsibilities of a City Council member is not a task that can be taken lightly. It takes commitment, passion, knowhow and an endless supply of energy. Anyone who really knows this island knows Jason holds these characteristics… and more. He has served on many of the governing boards of the community organization on the island as well as being elected as a Sanibel City Council Member by our own community. How many others have done that?
I personally witnessed Jason during hurricane Sally, drenched from head to toe like a reporter from the Weather Channel, evaluating the rising water issue Sanibel homeowners faced. He understands our fragile infrastructure, has proven his commitment to the issues our Island faces: Clean water, flood water mitigation, vegetation, wildlife welfare and countless others. He has served on many of the governing boards of the community organization on the island as well as being elected as a Sanibel City Council Member by our community.
Listen, there is a difference between wanting to be a City Councilperson and being able to do it. I see how being educated as an Attorney prepares you for a political position. I want someone in the position who can perform admirably. We each only get one vote and he has mine.
