The Sanibel Captiva Lions Club fielded two teams to support the Feed My Starving Children mobile food pack Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Sanibel Community Church. The team members had a good time while volunteering for a good cause. The Feed My Starving Children program supplies food to children in over 80 countries at a cost of 25 cents a day.
The Lions, whose motto is “We Serve,“ were proud to be able to aid in this effort. Over the two-day food pack the volunteers filled 684 boxes which will provide 147,744 meals to children. This will provide 404 children with one nutritious meal a day for a year. Lions members were happy to be part of this wonderful program.
The Sanibel Captiva Lions Club has been serving the Sanibel and Captiva Communities for more than 50 years. While the Lions Club is most known for their effort to eliminate preventable blindness, the club serves citizens of the Islands and greater Southwest Florida in a variety of ways. The local club is part of Lions Club International, the largest service organization in the world with more than 1.4 million members in chapters in more than 200 countries.
