The Sanibel-Captiva Art League will exhibit works by two local artists, Marcy Calkins and Stan Timson, throughout February at the Sanibel Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way. The exhibit will be open during community house hours, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Calkins likes creating a visual invitation on canvas to a “current event” or an “introspection.” Her creative “multiple personality” sometimes channels Monet, Audubon, Hopper, Magritte, or Matisse. Eliciting viewers to immerse, ponder, or to laugh drives her painting. She works primarily in oil and acrylic. Calkins’ work is held in private collections in the U.S. as well as some abroad. Paintings may be viewed on her website.
Timson divides his time between Southwest Florida and Chester County, Penn. His artwork reflects his love of both regions. He works primarily in oil and acrylic that radiate color and captures the mood of both areas. After a 35 year career as an art director, he retired and devotes his time to drawing and painting. Timson is recognized for his “Greetings From..” that recreate the colorful and graphics large lettered postcards from the 1940’s and 1950’s.
A virtual gallery can be viewed on the Sanibel Community House website.
