Jim Fowler, publisher of The Sanibel-Captiva Nature Calendar, announced a $1,000.00 donation to Save the Manatee Club. This is the publication’s 38th annual donation to a conservation organization. Since first publishing the calendar in 1988, it has become a tradition each fall to donate a portion of the proceeds to one of the organizations listed inside the rear cover.
Save The Manatee Club was selected for its statewide efforts to save this highly endangered marine mammal through public education and support for protection measures. This organization advocates for laws and policies, including the Endangered Species Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Their efforts help protect manatee habitat and health.
Fowler added …. “It’s an exciting treat to see a manatee in the waters off Sanibel and Captiva. During the warmer months, I have had the pleasure of seeing manatees in Tarpon Bay, out in Pine Island Sound and around Upper Captiva. In winter, you can observe manatees at Manatee Park in Fort Myers. These marine mammals are a pleasure to watch.
Last fall, $1,000.00 was donated to the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society. The year before, we donated $500.00 to the Sanibel Sea School. To date, this publication has donated $30,689.25 to conservation organizations in Florida.
