Sanibel School’s Seahorse Chorale has been invited to perform at New York City’s Carnegie Hall and a donor has offered a $25,000 matching grant to help them raise the money they need for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“Our students are busy trying to raise the $100,000 needed for this trip by hosting a car wash, selling tickets to student performances at the Sanibel Community House and their performance at New Hope Presbyterian Church, collecting tips at the upcoming NASCAR race in Homestead Florida, and an apple pie sale at the Sanibel Farmer’s Market to name a few upcoming events,” said Sanibel School Principal Jennifer Lusk. “I am thrilled to announce a generous donor has stepped forward pledging to match all gifts up to $25,000. To say we are ecstatic is an understatement.”

The deadline for the match is December 31, 2023.

The donor recently contacted the Charitable Foundation of the Islands (CFI) for help in making the gift anonymously.

CFI Executive Director Dolly Farrell explained, “The donor wishes to make the gift anonymously so the focus remains on the students and their trip.”

The Sanibel School Seahorse Chorale is a middle school choir consisting of sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students. The choir was founded in 2016 by The Sanibel School Music Director, Joey Giangreco.

Students perform music from various genres while learning proper vocal technique, musicality and expression. The choir also focuses on learning how to sight sing.

Seahorse Chorale has consistently received ratings of ‘Excellent’ while singing at the Music Performance Assessments and have received a ‘Superior’ rating for their sight singing. The choir frequently performs at school and community events throughout the year. Its annual performance at Disney World is a highlight for the students.

This fundraising campaign is sponsored by the Sanibel School Fund, an extension of the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, a 501(c)(3) organization. Gifts are tax-deductible and may be made by scanning QR code or visiting online: https://sanibelschoolfund.betterworld.org
