Mercedes SUV Part Of Live Auction For Captiva Civic Assoc. ‘ABC Gala’

provided to The Santiva Chronicle

The 54th annual ABC Gala fundraiser by the Captiva Civic Association will be Tuesday, Feb. 22 at The Sanctuary Golf Club, 2801 Wulfert Rd. There will be a dinner and live auction featuring a 2013 Mercedes Benz GLK 350 with 23,500 miles donated by a CCA member.

Other very generously donated auction items range from community organizations such as Congress Jewelers, Captiva Cruises, Bailey’s General Store, South Seas Island Resort and the Gold Parrot to private tours led by the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation, the Rauschenberg Foundation, and the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum, as well as other generous donations from CCA members, and unique furniture pieces decorated by local community artists.

Each year the CCA has a featured artist who donates a piece and the rights to use their work for the gala invitation and t-shirts. This year that featured artist is Rachel Pierce.

The ABC Gala, which began in 1967, stood for attic, basements and closets. CCA members and the Captiva community would donate items to a giant tag sale of sorts, from which the proceeds funded CCA programs and operations. The popular event evolved to become a catered dinner and live auction at the Civic Center. But the items have become bigger and better.

CCA members have first right of refusal on tickets for this event, as the CCA is limiting capacity for the comfort of the guests. However, remaining tickets will be available to the public as of Monday, Feb. 14. Tickets are $180 per person and include a cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres, a coursed dinner with wine, and a live auction presided over by auctioneer extraordinaire Tommy Williams. Auction bidders must be a ticketed guest present at the event to participate.
