Minor Vehicle Crashes, Several Iguana Sightings Reported

A bicyclist was struck by a vehicle Sunday, Aug. 28 at 3880 Sanibel Captiva Road. Kate Bathaser was riding her bike on the Shared Use Path when her bicycle was struck by a vehicle operated Francisco Landino as he was pulling out of the parking lot.

Bathaser was found at fault since Landino’s vehicle was already in the crosswalk when she passed in front of the vehicle. Bathaser received minor injuries but refused transport by Lee County EMS.

Charles Grosse of Canton, Ga., was parking his Winnebago Sunday, Aug. 28 at 2255 W. Gulf Dr., when his vehicle struck the parked vehicle of James Hulse of Fort Myers.

A two-vehicle crash without injuries occurred Tuesday, Aug. 29 in the parking lot at 1501 Middle Gulf Dr. Alejandro Rosario was issued a citation for improper backing.

Animal Reports: Several Iguana Sightings Reported

Four iguanas were reported Saturday, Aug. 27 by the mangroves behind a residence on Angel Drive.

Two large and some smaller iguanas were reported Monday, Aug. 29 near the mangroves behind a residence at an undisclosed location.

Three iguanas were reported Monday, Aug. 29 on the seawall next to a residence on San Carlos Bay Drive.

Several iguanas were reported Tuesday, Aug. 30 near and in the Mariner Point neighborhood.

At least one iguana, possible other smaller iguanas, were reported for the third time Tuesday, Aug. 30 near the mangroves behind a residence on South Yachtsman Drive.

Two iguanas were reported Tuesday, Aug. 30 in the backyard of a residence on Mitzi Lane.

A homeowner on Osprey Court reported Tuesday, Aug. 30 she observed an alligator walking across her driveway on the home’s video security system. She requested the alligator be removed from her residence. The trapper was notified.

A deceased turtle was reported Wednesday, Aug. 31 in the area of Sunrise Circle and Meridian Drive. The Department of Public Works removed it from the roadway.

Two iguanas were reported Wednesday, Aug. 31 in the backyard of a residence on Calla Court.

A cane toad was reported Wednesday, Aug. 31 at a residence on Almas Court. It was removed from the property and turned over the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife.

Three iguanas were reported Thursday, Sept. 1 in the backyard of a residence on Schooner Place. Burrows were also reported.

Nearly a dozen iguanas were reported Thursday, Sept. 1 near the edge of the water on Dunlop Road.
