National Shell Museum Names New Finance Director

provided to The Santiva Chronicle

The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum has named Ryan Powell as its new Finance Manager.

Powell, who has lived in the Fort Myers area for most of his life, completed his Bachelor’s in Accounting at Florida Gulf Coast University. He most recently worked as an Accountant for Wiltshire, Whitley, Richardson & English, P.A., a longstanding Fort Myers accounting firm.

Powell also brings extensive management experience to the Museum, after working for Publix Super Markets for 14 years. His volunteer work with the United Way and its partner agencies over the years has shifted his interest to working in the nonprofit realm, and he is thrilled to join the team at the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum and become a part of the Sanibel community.

About the Museum: The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum is a Natural History Museum, and the only museum in the United States devoted solely to shells and mollusks. Their mission is to connect people to the natural world through their love of shells and the marvelous animals that create them. Their collections, programs, and expertise inspire learning, support scientific research, tell the story of mollusks, and the ocean that they inhabit. There are more mollusks in the oceans than all marine mammals and fish species combined, and mollusks are becoming extinct faster than they can be named due to climate change, ocean acidification, and pollution. For more information on the Museum, please visit http://www.shellmuseum.org or call (239) 395-2233.
