New City Web Portal for Permits to Go Online in August

by SC Reporter Emilie Alfino

Citizens and contractors will have an easier experience when going online to apply for permits, check the status of their applications and inspections, apply for business licenses and more with a new portal called CityView.

This came about because the City Manager directed the Building Director to review and evaluate the existing permit processing procedures and electronic permitting software to improve customer service. City staff initiated a full review of the existing software and identified 11 critical operational deficiencies. Evaluation included the comparison between the current system and the CityView system.

Implementation of CityView software will improve staffing efficiencies, enhance the level of customer service to residents, and position the City of Sanibel to better manage disaster preparedness and facilitate rebuilding.

City Council saw a thorough presentation of the new software. “This is a tremendous improvement in our permitting process. More work can be done by the user,” said Mayor Richard Johnson. “This is a huge step in the right direction.”
