Noah’s Ark, the popular island thrift shop located on the grounds of St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, will redecorate for Christmas. To celebrate, Ark volunteers invite one and all to its second annual Christmas Open House, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 18. On that day, the shop will sparkle with Christmas items galore and Christmas cheer for customers.
The event, NOAH’S NOËL, features complimentary refreshments, including iced holiday cutter cookies with sprinkles, gingerbread men and candy cane cookies, plus a Christmas punch. Santa Claus will pose for pictures with Ark customers.
Shoppers at NOAH’S NOËL will see twinkling lights from a forest of trees and ornaments from all over the world–including many with beach themes. Shelves are lined with toys, Santas and other items to delight children and bring fond memories back to adults.
A special kitchen section features holiday cookbooks, cookie cutters and pans – anything Christmas related! Other items include baskets filled with poinsettias, wreaths, greenery and garlands scattered throughout the store, providing a magical and Old-Fashioned Christmas theme. Christmas books and numerous gift ideas are also available for grandchildren, family and friends.
The Ark offers, at bargain prices, women’s and men’s clothing, children’s apparel, kitchen electronics and housewares, furniture and home furnishings, a large assortment of lamps, on occasion a collection of quality art, and a varied selection of books—including excellent vacation reading—in its own special book station, “Barnes and Noah.”
Noah’s Ark longtime volunteer Adele Mattern described its other 80 volunteers as the Noah’s Ark miracle. “They come together to do all it takes to run a thrift shop, and to provide an essential service to islanders and the island’s workers,” Mattern said. “The Ark is a welcoming place to shop and to raise money for important causes. I am honored to participate in this mission. Our goal is to continue, and build on, our reputation for service.”
In operation for more than 50 years, Noah’s Ark is run by the women of St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church. Proceeds from Ark sales, coupled with monies from the parish’s annual budget, go to more than 25 local, regional and global charities.
Noah’s Ark gratefully accepts donations, which can be left during daytime business hours at the shop’s loading dock. Furniture items are accepted with the approval of the furniture chair. Items should be clean and in good condition. The Ark volunteers and St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church extend heartfelt thanks to all donors who make the Ark’s charitable mission a continuing success.
The Ark is open weekdays, as well as the first Saturday of each month, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and 5 to 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. For more information, call 472-3356.
