A draft ordinance for bonus outdoor seating at island restaurants was unanimously moved to a first reading Tuesday, Aug. 24 by Sanibel City Council. If passed, the ordinance allows restaurants to more easily move approved indoor seats to an outside area.

Mayor Holly Smith said outdoor dining has worked in this new COVID world and in many, many other ways. She sees the move as an asset to the community.

The first reading will be on the Sept. 13 council agenda.
