Periwinkle Garden Club Donates $1,000 to Sanibel Initiative

The Periwinkle Garden Club of Fort Myers, Lee County’s oldest garden club and a club that once counted Mrs. Thomas Edison among its members, has donated $1,000 to Roots in Resilience, marking its first contribution to a nonprofit initiative on Sanibel Island.

The community extends its deepest appreciation to the Periwinkle Garden Club for helping to invest in Sanibel’s environmental future. The donation will support restoring Sanibel’s historic Causeway Corridor and creating a healthier, more resilient landscape for residents and visitors.

Roots in Resilience is a citizen-driven initiative that seeks to restore and enhance Sanibel Island’s vegetative character by introducing large, resilient, native trees and complementary vegetation to public roadways damaged or destroyed by recent storms. Partners include the City of Sanibel, the Charitable Foundation of the Islands, the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, BIG ARTS, and Coastal Vista Design. Citizen volunteers include John Henshaw, Kate Sergeant, David Muench and Jason Halliburton.
