Peterson Meets Frozen Turkey Collection Goal

by SC Associate Publisher/Photographer Chuck Larsen

Sanibel resident Henry Peterson only collected 10 frozen turkeys the first year of his annual collection, but this year he met his goal of 1,000 pounds of frozen turkeys for the Harry Chapin Food Bank. The refrigerated truck was parked outside his home on Lagoon Drive Nov. 20, as islanders drove by and offered their turkey donations. The turkeys and dry goods are distributed through 150 local groups in five counties, including Lee County, to shelters and food banks. Donations have increased every year and Peterson works tirelessly all fall promoting the collection event. Having achieved his goal this year, he will raise the mark next year and we’re guessing he meets it.
