Police Make Drug Arrest; Wisconsin Man Charged with DUI

Matthew Slater of Cape Coral was arrested at 2:49 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19 near the Sanibel Boat Ramp on Sextant Drive and charged with drug possession.

Benjamin Wessling of Kenosha, Wisc., was charged with driving under the influence Saturday, Nov. 20, after running a stop sign at Periwinkle Way and Lindgren Boulevard. He was issued citations for failing to stop at the intersection and not having his driver’s license on him.

Mary Chasseur of Sanibel was traveling east on Periwinkle Way at 1:26 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, when she had to stop near Donax Street and the back of her vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by William Smith of Sanibel. Smith was issued a citation for careless driving.

Animal Reports

An injured or sick Royal Tern was found Saturday, Nov. 20 on Nerita Beach and transported to Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife.

An injured or sick cormorant was found Saturday, Nov. 20 on the beach along West Gulf Drive and transported to Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife.

An alligator was reported Sunday, Nov. 21 in a pool at Pine Cove of Sanibel, but was gone when police arrived on the scene.

A coyote was sighted at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23 near Lighthouse Beach parking lot.

An injured or sick cormorant was reported Tuesday, Nov. 23 on the beach at Sandpiper Beach, Olde Middle Gulf Drive, and transported to Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife.
