Sanibel Police arrested 52-year-old Carlos Aldunate of Doral, Fla., and charged him with driving under the influence. The officer observed Aldunate’s vehicle traveling on the Shared Use Path near the 1600 block of Periwinkle Way at 1:19 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 31 and conducted a traffic stop. Aldunate was booked into the Lee County Jail and released Sunday afternoon on a $1,000 bond.
Burglary
Cash in the amount of $1,000 was reported missing Nov. 1 at Island Cow.
Vehicle Crashes
Joshua Benware of Dow, Ill., was traveling west on Periwinkle Way at 2:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, when a vehicle operated by Thomas Brockley struck the back of his vehicle. No injuries were reported.
Iyeska Gonazelz of Lehigh Acres was traveling east on Periwinkle Way at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, when she slowed for traffic and the back of her vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Luis Ospina of Naples, Fla. Ospina was issued a citation for following too closely. No injuries were reported.
Animal Reports
Deceased coyote removed from the roadway Oct. 30 in the 3300 block of Sanibel-Captiva Road.
Large alligator reported Oct. 30 sunbathing on a property in the 6000 block of Dinkins Lake Road. No action was taken.
Three adult coyotes sighted Oct. 30 in the area of Donax Road and Junonia Street.
Large alligator reported Nov. 1 sunbathing near a fence at a home in the 700 block of Rabbit Road. No action was taken.
Deceased cormorant removed from the beach Nov. 3 in the 600 block of East Gulf Drive.
Fisherman reported a coyote in the parking lot of the Sanibel Boat Ramp on Nov. 4. It was non-aggressive and walked into the nearby wooded area.
Coyote sighted crossing Sanibel-Captiva Road on Nov. 4 and was last seen walking into the area of the J.N. ‘Ding’ Darling National Wildlife Refuge.
