Police Respond To A Trio Of Vehicle Accidents in Parking Lots

The Sanibel Police responded to two single-vehicle accidents and a hit-and-run in parking lots.

Carol Hrabsky of New York was parking her vehicle at St. Isabel’s Catholic Church, 3559 Sanibel Captiva Rd., at 8:26 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, when she accidentally pressed the accelerator pedal causing her vehicle to travel over the parking curb and between two trees before it struck a bronze statue and a park bench. Her vehicle also struck a small utility post.

Hrabsky appeared to be fine and did not have visible injuries, according to the accident report. Sanibel Service Center removed the vehicle from the scene.

Bridgit Budd of Sanibel was entering the parking garage at Jerry’s Foods, 1700 Periwinkle Way, at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, when the top of her vehicle did not clear the concrete overpass. It resulted in moderate damage to the vehicle’s roof and minor to no structural damage to the building. Staff deflated the tires to dislodge the vehicle, the report stated, and Budd drove it from the scene.

A Casa Ybel Resort guest reported a hit-and-run to his vehicle while it was parked in front of his unit. Brian Bates of Arlington Heights, Ill., told Sanibel Police his vehicle had been parked since Jan. 1 and he didn’t notice damage to the vehicle’s trunk until Jan. 3. Police canvased the resort’s parking lot, but did not find any vehicles with consistent damage. And there were no witnesses or surveillance cameras.
