Police Respond to Minor Vehicle Crashes

Sanibel Police Officers responded to minor vehicle crashes this past week and one driver was cited for careless driving.

Mark Wagner, 33, Sanibel, was traveling west on Casa Ybel Road at 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 13, and, as he made a left turn onto Middle Gulf Drive, his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Terry Witzky, 66, Warsaw, Ind., who was making a left turn onto Casa Ybel Road. Witzky was issued a citation for careless driving.

William Beltre, 35, Miami, Fla., was traveling west on Periwinkle Way at 12:10 p.m. Saturday, March 14, when he slowed for traffic and the back of his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Henry Vanminnen, 75, Kingsville. No injuries were reported.

Parking Lot Crashes

William Kelly, 79, New York, was backing out of a parking space at Jerry’s Foods on Thursday, March 19, when his vehicle struck a westbound vehicle operated by Raymond Jajowka, 50, Crown Point, Ind.

James Rowland, 54, Washington, D.C., backed his vehicle into a vehicle operated by Gregory Dekeyser, 62, Kewanee, Ill., as they were in a valet line at Island Inn on Friday, March 13.

Joseph Foster, 66, Sanibel, was backing his vehicle out of a parking space at Bailey’s General Store on Tuesday, March 17, when his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by James Sauter, 72, Grand Rapids, Iowa, who was also backing out of a parking space.
