Police Respond to Nearly Half Dozen Minor Crashes

Lawrence Sauer, 69, Newport, Wash., was traveling south on Causeway Boulevard, near Mariner Point, at 12:44 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, when he stopped for traffic and the back of his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Nicolas Smith, 22, Fort Myers. No injuries were reported. Smith was given a verbal warning for following too closely.

David Benson, 57, Sanibel, was traveling west in the north-side of the parking lot at Bailey’s Shopping Center, 2477 Periwinkle Way, at 11:41 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, when he attempted to pull into a parking space and his vehicle sideswiped the unoccupied parked vehicle of Frannie Fanc, 58, Newtown, Penn. Due to the minimal amount of damage, Benson was not issued a citation for careless driving.

Geraldine Gainer, 75, Chicago, was traveling east on Periwinkle Way at 4:54 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, when the passenger side of her vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Julie Neitzke, 62, Sanibel, as she pulled out of the parking lot of Gene’s Books. No injuries were reported.

Vincent Vouillon, 49, France, was backing out of a parking space at 9:58 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Tesoro Bistro, 751 Tarpon Bay Rd., when his vehicle struck the parked vehicle of Dean Barry, 53, Sanibel.

Christopher Kousis, 35, Raleigh, N.C., was traveling west on Sanibel Captiva Road at 2:50 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, when the back of his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Ivan Berges, 41, Cape Coral. No injuries were reported.
