The Sanibel Recreation Center is inviting residents and visitors to reconnect with the island they love during Wild Mile Week, a special week-long series of nature-inspired fitness classes, wellness experiences, outdoor enrichment opportunities and community activities taking place July 20–26 as part of the Love Sanibel Back initiative.
Centered around the theme “Where Wellness Meets the Wild,” Wild Mile Week encourages participants to embrace Sanibel’s unique natural beauty while discovering new ways to stay active, healthy and connected.
Throughout the week, the Recreation Center will offer a variety of themed classes inspired by the island’s wildlife, along with hands-on educational experiences, social media challenges, and opportunities to win prizes.
Featured Activities Include:
Osprey Power Hour with Amber – Start the week with an energizing morning workout inspired by one of Sanibel’s most recognizable birds.
Framing the Wild – Snapping Sanibel with professional photographer and island resident Casey Bradley-Gent – A free, limited-space, outdoor photography experience at Bailey Preserve where participants will learn how to capture wildlife and coastal landscapes using either a camera or a smartphone while improving composition, lighting and timing techniques. Click HERE to register.
Flamingo Flow Aqua Yogalates with Tori – A refreshing aquatic fitness class combining movement and mindfulness. This class is open to the public, but non-members must complete a waiver at the Front Desk.
Echoes of Nature Sound Bowl Experience with Dani – A relaxing evening sound journey inspired by the rhythms of the natural world using crystal singing bowls to promote relaxation and stress relief. Click HERE to register.
Gentle Sea Turtle Yoga with Patricia – A calming yoga session celebrating one of Sanibel’s most beloved marine species.
In addition to the scheduled classes, participants are encouraged to join the “Caught in the Wild” social media challenge by snapping a photo of their outdoor workout during Wild Mile Week and tagging the Sanibel Recreation Center on Facebook or Instagram. Creative entries may be featured on Recreation Center social media channels and displayed at the facility, with prizes awarded for creativity and consistency.
Wild Mile Week is part of the island-wide Love Sanibel Back campaign, celebrating the people, businesses, and organizations that continue to make Sanibel a vibrant place to live, visit, and play.
Several Wild Mile Week activities are free and open to the community, while select specialty programs require registration. Residents and visitors are encouraged to register early as space is limited for some experiences.
