Recreation Master Plan Visioning Session Set For Monday

SC Staff Report

A comprehensive assessment of Sanibel’s Recreation Department has been underway since February. The goal is to “reimagine” all components of the department to meet the needs of every resident today and into the future.

Various community engagements, a recreation department staff workshop and visioning session with city council took place from March to June. A Recreation Master Plan visioning session will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15 at City Hall, 800 Dunlop Rd. It will also be available via Zoom and livestreamed.

Representatives from the consulting firm Berry Dunn McNeil & Parker will present a summary of the whole engagement process and the feedback received from it. The team will also summarize high-level financial information for the department and discuss best practices for cost recovery.

The discussion will then focus on council’s ideas and vision for the recreation department – Recreation Center, Center4Life, aquatics and outdoor sports programs. Public comment is also on the agenda. Although, council will not accept public participation through Zoom.

An overarching vision for the Recreation Department is to be developed in this session for the Berry Dunn team to complete the draft report for council in October. The total cost of the project is $74,400.

  1. Will there be a Membership level available at the Rec Center for long term renters(4-6 months) who are not residents? They can show their rental contract as proof. Thank you.
