The Sanibel Historical Museum and Village (SHMV) celebrated its 40th anniversary with a gala and premiere showing of a captivating documentary on the history of hurricanes on Sanibel Island.

The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company-sponsored event took place on Feb. 20 at the Sanibel Community House.

Directed by local documentarian Ken Sneeden, “Wreckage, Resilience & Recovery: The History of Hurricanes on Sanibel & Captiva” was being filmed well before Hurricane Ian pummeled Southwest Florida with its Category 4 winds, storm surge and torrential rain in September 2022.

Jeff Muddell, the Trust Company’s Sanibel-Captiva Office President and SHMV board member, led a pre-screening conversation with three local television meteorologists – Robert Van Winkle (now retired from NBC-2), Rob Duns (NBC-2) and Greg Rule (WINK News) – who shared their hurricane memories.
