Sanibel Causeway Remained Busy in August

SC Staff Report

The Sanibel Causeway remained busy in August with 252,803 vehicles crossing the scenic bridge. That is 8 percent higher than August 2020, but it did not beat the record for that month set in 2001 when 257,564 vehicles passed through the toll booth.

Sanibel experienced record-breaking traffic over the summer. And a report released in September by Lee County, which owns and operates the bridge, shows traffic through August is up by nearly 23 percent compared to the same time last year. So far this year, 2.4 million vehicles have crossed the bridge.
