Sanibel City Council To Consider Day Passes for Sundial

by SC Reporter Emilie Alfino

Council member Holly Smith suggested for future consideration whether Sundial should be able to sell day passes to its facilities. This would be on a short-term basis and is now prohibited by the Land Development Code.

“We need to do everything we can to help businesses recover,” said Mayor Richard Johnson. “I want to learn more about this. I believe this is very do-able. It’s prudent to move this process along.”

Sundial General Manager Becky Miller said she was excited that there was positive reaction to the proposal. “This is not long-term,” she said. “This will get our people working again. This is a short-term business plan to get Sundial back open – until we get our condos back open.”

“This has been successful at ’Tween Waters since January,” Planning Commission Chair Roger Grogman added.

West Sundial is scheduled to open approximately November 1, while East Sundial is experiencing some problems with exterior lighting.

The day passes would be sold through Sundial’s call center.

This matter will come before Council at its July 30 special meeting.

  1. How about we cut some red tape for a change and do something to help a major island business get back on their feet?
