Sanibel Congregational Hosting MLK, Jazz Workshop

provided to Santiva Chronicle

Bill Harris and Tom Cooley from The Bill Harris Experience play at last year’s MLK/Jazz Sunday at Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ.

The Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ invites the public to experience how the vision of Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. and the music of jazz can uplift and inspire when brought together in worship from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at the church, 2050 Periwinkle Way. The Bill Harris Experience Band will provide music during the worship service as Senior Pastor John Danner leads the congregation in honoring the legacy of the Rev. Dr. King.

“Over the course of our nation’s history few figures have been as important as Martin Luther King, Jr.,” said Danner. “His commitment to justice is as needed today as it was in the days of the Civil Rights movement. The beauty of that movement was underscored by music – often the same music that now influences jazz. Our faith rooted efforts to create a more just and peaceful world in ennobled by both Dr. King’s legacy and the jazz.”
