A Photo Enforcement Services Agreement between Altumint, Inc. and the City of Sanibel for use of a school zone speed enforcement system was approved by Council at its November 11, 2024, meeting.

The new automatic system is scheduled to take effect soon.

Florida passed and signed into law in 2023 legislation that authorized school speed zone enforcement and detection systems using photograph enforcement, if the local government passed an ordinance authorizing it. In August 2024, the Sanibel City Council adopted such an ordinance authorizing such systems and enforcement.

Altumint, Inc. will provide a school zone speed enforcement system in accordance with the requirements of the City ordinance, which will result in automatic generation of citations for vehicles that exceed the school zone speed limit. The proposed contract with Altumint is a piggyback contract off a competitively bid contract with the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.

The City’s funding will come from revenue generated by fines for infractions, covering all costs including administrative expenses and enforcement, ensuring it remains cost neutral.
