Sanibel Crews Respond to Boat Engine Fire Last Weekend

Sanibel Fire and Rescue District responded to a boat engine fire on Saturday, Jan. 8 near Picnic Island. The fire was contained to the engine compartment, saving the rest of the 34-foot vessel. It was towed back to a marina and no injuries were reported.

The fire district responded to 34 additional incidents from Jan. 7 to Jan. 13:

Outside rubbish fire: 1 on Jan. 9
Medical-related, including EMS and medical assists: 16
Person in distress: 1 on Jan. 11
Public service assistance: 1
Good intent call: 2
Canceled en route: 5
False alarms: 2
Unintentional alarms: 6
