Sanibel felt the effects of Tropical Storm Eta on Wednesday, Nov. 11. It dumped several inches of rain in areas, blew wind gusts up to 48 mph and scattered debris. Several island homes and businesses also lost power throughout the day.
The City of Sanibel reported rainfall varied from 1.39 inches at Beach Road; 1.6 inches at Jordan Marsh; and 4.66 inches at Bowman’s Beach. Winds were recorded at 36 mph with gusts exceeding 40 mph Wednesday night.
Th parking lots at Lighthouse Park Bayside and Fishing Pier, Blind Pass Park and Lighthouse Beach Gulfside Park, as well as the access road to Sanibel Lighthouse have reopened after standing water and debris have cleared.
The eye of Eta came as close as 100 miles to the shore of Sanibel, but it continued to move north up the Gulf coast. Eta reportedly weakened into a tropical storm after briefly becoming a hurricane Wednesday morning in the eastern Gulf. It made landfall early Thursday morning near Cedar Key, Fla.
