Sanibel Fire District Reports Successful Beach Campfire Permit Season

provided to The Santiva Chronicle

The Sanibel & Fire Rescue District has announced a successful beach campfire season on the island. The district reports participants took the rules and regulations very seriously and there were zero clean-up issues or complaints.

Permits are only issued from Nov. 1 to Feb. 14 each year. This ensures a safe nesting season for the local shorebirds and sea turtles that come to Sanibel. During this time, the district saw a 20 percent increase in issued permits.

“Every year we are seeing an increase in these types of permits being issued,” said Fire Marshal Larry Williams. “We appreciate the permit holders have taken all the rules and regulations seriously. It really is a fantastic experience, and we look forward to next season.”
