Sanibel Hosting Transportation Master Plan Community Workshop

provided by the City of Sanibel

The City of Sanibel is hosting an in-person and online public workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at the Sanibel Community House to discuss the city’s transportation master plan. The presentation will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.

Community members will learn about the study’s purpose, review maps and proposed projects, programs, and policies. Questions can be asked, and feedback can be shared with representatives of the city and the consultant teams of Volkert, Inc., Kittleson & Associates, and 24-7 Consulting.

Those firms are developing a transportation master plan to evaluate proposed improvements across the island. The plan will document the current conditions of the island’s transportation system, establish a long-term vision for future mobility, and provide recommendations for implementation over 5, 10, and 20 years.

The plan will additionally address key needs, including traffic congestion, wildlife collisions, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and stormwater-related flooding. A draft of the plan is anticipated to be presented to the Planning Commission and City Council in September or October for consideration and adoption.

Questions or comments on the transportation master plan can be emailed to Ned Baier at nedbaier@volkert.com and must be submitted by April 7 to be included in the public meeting record.

For all other questions about the workshop, contact the Sanibel Planning Department at 239-472-4136.
