Sanibel Mayor Reports On City Council Meeting

by SC Reporter Emilie Alfino

Sanibel Mayor Mike Miller speaks to Planning Commissioners on Tuesday, May 13, about the 11.5-hour City Council meeting on May 6.

Mayor Mike Miller reported to the Planning Commission on the 11-1/2 hour City Council meeting of May 6. Planning Commissioner Lyman Welch responded that an 11-1/2 hour meeting makes it difficult for the public to participate and suggested the possibility of a second meeting each month. The mayor indicated there have been discussions to that effect but no decision has been made. He said he has concerns about agenda items expanding to fill the time. “11-1/2 hour meetings is not good governance,” he conceded.
