Sanibel Plans 9/11 Tribute

by SC Reporter Emilie Alfino

This year marks 25 years since the attack on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The City of Sanibel is planning a memorial tribute with 2,977 flags, one for each person who died that day.

People can buy the flags at the Recreation Center beginning July 4. The flags will then be displayed in Community Park from September 5 through 15, with a special “moment of reflection” at the Community House and Community Park on September 11.

In 2027, plans are underway to bring the Tunnels to Towers 9/11 Foundation Never Forget Mobile Exhibit to Sanibel from November 11 (Veterans Day) to November 13.

More details to come.
