Families met this morning, Oct. 4, in the parking lot of Rosalita’s restaurant, at the corner of Rabbit Road and Sanibel Captiva Road, to celebrate National Bike and Walk to School Day. They arrived with decorated and dressed-up bicycles to take their child or children to school. Sanibel Police and Sanibel Fire & Rescue District cheered them on and Billy’s Bike Rentals and Finnimores Bikes provided their trucks to transport the children’s bicycles back to the restaurant.

This day is about getting up and moving. The National Center for Safe Routes to School says walking or riding a bike in the community gives children a strong sense of self-confidence and a better quality of life.

The Sanibel School PTA organized the ride.
