Sanibel Sea School Offering After School Canoeing

As a new session to the after school line-up, After School Canoeing, will begin on April 20. Sanibel Sea School has traditionally offered canoeing during select weeks of summer camp, but has decided to host an entire series on the popular activity.

Participants will learn canoeing basics and hone their paddling skills while exploring the waters of Sanibel. They will learn how to do basic paddling strokes to maneuver the boat and play some fun on-the-water games.

“Canoeing is a great way to reach places on the water that we can’t get to by foot,” said Education Programs Manager Shannon Stainken. “We’ll be keeping our eyes out for dolphins, manatees, and even stingrays.”

The four-session series will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:30. Participants can register for one session or sign up for the whole series. All after school sessions are $20 per student. Registration is open at the Sea School’s website. If you’d like more information, please call (239) 472-8585 or email info@sanibelseaschool.org. Scholarships are available.

Part of the SCCF (Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation) Family, Sanibel Sea School’s mission is to improve the ocean’s future, one person at a time.
