Sanibel Shell Show Weekend Will Be Here Soon

provided to The Santiva Chronicle

It’s almost time for the world-renowned, juried, and very competitive Sanibel Shell Show everyone knows and loves — from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 8-9 at the Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort. Created and run by the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club for about 85 years, (minus Covid and Hurricane Ian damage), it will include a huge number of both artistic and scientific exhibits. In fact, there will be approximately 300 entries on display.

Holding the Sanibel Shell Show at the Marriott offers additional room for more world-class professional, and hobbyist exhibits than ever before, and more amazing works of art and scientific designs for attendees to see. Plenty of free parking is available, as well as many vendors offering shells and shell-related items, a full-sized mannequin dressed entirely in shells named “Shelly”, a raffle loaded with amazing prizes and trips, and a free bag of Sanibel shells for each attendee.

A $5 cash donation is requested, and all proceeds from the Sanibel Shell Show go to many different causes and organizations via grants within not only the Sanibel and Captiva communities, but also to educational research in Southwest Florida.  The proceeds support grants to some favorite Sanibel organizations such as the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium and the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF).  Grants also support local university research into mollusks and water quality. The Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club is the only organization that does not take a profit from its show. All proceeds are given back to the community.
