Sanibel Captiva Business Women’s Association held its Second Annual Open House on Tuesday, May 9 at the Captiva Civic Center. More than 60 women gathered for the event.
Both SCBWA members and non-members celebrated another successful year as an organization. Live music was provided by Dave Confrey with food provided by Blue Giraffe and wine provided by Bailey’s General Store.
SCBWA President Taylor Osborne gave a speech during the event on the year in review and how far the organization has come since its beginnings and how much has been accomplished as an organization.
“It was incredibly encouraging and uplifting to see so many strong Sanibel and Captiva women come together as we celebrated current members and welcomed new members,” said Osborne. “As we embrace our third year as an organization, we remain focused on being a kind, inclusive, diverse group of women supporting women through networking relationships, mentorship, continuing education and career advancement.”
“In the year to come SCBWA will continue to nurture and support fellow members and our community through a variety of channels such as monthly luncheon meetings, networking and fundraising events,” Osborne said.
SCBWA was founded in late 2020 with meetings starting in January 2021. At the first Open House in May 2022 more than 50 women came to the event and by the end of 2022, 80 members had joined the organization. This year more than 60 women came to the event and 11 new members signed up during this time. By the end of the year, the organization hopes to be more than 100 women strong and is on track to achieve this milestone.
Maureen McGauran, SCBWA Board Member and Communications Chair states, “Hurricane Ian has not stopped this amazing group of women from continuing to grow this network of Island women. This organization serves as a tangible reminder of the resilience of our islands and its community. We look forward to the year ahead and all that we can accomplish as women on the island.”
Sanibel Captiva Business Women’s Association is dedicated to empowering and supporting the women who work and live on the islands through networking, mentorship, continuing education and career advancement.
SCBWA aims to serve the community by offering an inclusive, supportive and diverse group of women supporting women. Our focus is the advancement of women’s career development targeted to works, aspiring workers and the residents of Sanibel and Captiva. The group meets every third Tuesday of the month at various businesses and restaurants at noon.
