SCBWA To Hold Ice Cream Social

Sanibel Captiva Business Women’s Association will hold an Ice Cream Social from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 22 at The Shack of Sanibel, 1219 Periwinkle Way. The event gives members and non-members an opportunity to mingle and grab a sweet treat.

Kelly Huguenin, SCBWA board member and Realtor® at Pfeifer Realty, came up with the idea for the group to have an Ice Cream Social. With the help of Kerri Maw, fellow Realtor® at Pfeifer Realty and active member of SCBWA, they were able to help make this event possible.

Huguenin shares how the concept came about after The Shack of Sanibel’s dedication to the community after Hurricane Ian. “The theory behind us hosting an ice cream social is to help support our local community and to give back to those who helped us the most during our time of need,” she said.

“The Shack is a newer restaurant on the island and the owners did not think twice about serving our community during all those first months after the storm. It became a place of normalcy and gathering for anyone that needed a free meal. We were all traveling by boat every day, walking several miles to clean out our homes while helping others before going back to catch our ride and do it again the next day,” Huguenin said.

“It was truly amazing and an exemplary way of showing compassion and community support,” echoed Maw. “The Shack will never know how much it was appreciated and our hopes are that people will come back and support them at our ice cream social.”

SCBWA continues to support local Sanibel and Captiva restaurants and businesses who are currently operating both on island and off-island by holding various events at numerous locations. SCBWA remains committed to meeting at various businesses as they recover from Hurricane Ian.

Sanibel Captiva Business Women’s Association is dedicated to empowering and supporting the women who work and live on the islands through networking, mentorship, continuing education and career advancement.

SCBWA aims to serve the community by offering an inclusive, supportive and diverse group of women supporting women. Our focus is the advancement of women’s career development targeted to workers, aspiring workers and the residents of Sanibel and Captiva. The group meets every third Tuesday of the month at various businesses and restaurants at noon. Registration for the free event is required on Eventbrite.
